Support of a day care centre, a home for the elderly, home care service and medical care

Since 2005

Moldova has a high poverty status, particularly in the rural areas. Retired individuals have a hard life as very often their pension money is insufficient to cover basic daily living costs. AMURT supports a project to improve the lives of elderly people, who are unable to care for themselves - especially those who are alone, sick or physically disabled.
 
AMURT constructed the “Sunrise” Day Care Centre. This centre currently provides a warm meal, sanitation facilities, heated rooms and laundry to over 280 elderly people.
 
In November 2005, the “Rainbow” Elderly People’s Home was built in the vicinity of the day care centre. Currently 20 people inhabit the home. The home offers full services such as accommodation, a kitchen, medical services and socialisation activities for the old and sick. In addition, it provides care for sick or handicapped individuals, through a network of volunteers who also regularly distribute food and other types of required support in the nearby villages.
