Project Summary:
In Ghana, like in most other African countries, access to clean and safe drinking water is insufficient. Water is an essential necessity and is crucial for survival. Polluted water is a prime transmitter of diseases. The extraction, conservation and conditioning of water are one of the biggest challenges in Ghana.
The “multi-purpose dam” in Mafi Zongo and the water treatment plant in Dekpoe were two of AMURT’s successful water projects. In order to ensure their sustainability, the local communities, workers and experts were involved in the planning, construction and maintenance processes. Furthermore, we raised awareness of water and hygiene procedures in the local communities.
More than 10,000 Ghanaians are benefiting from clean drinking water. As a result of this initiative, the percentage of water-borne diseases has dropped considerably in the region. Thanks to access to clean drinking water and the conscious handling of the “liquid gold”, the standard of living has been significantly improved.
