Project Summary
AMURT began its work in Croatia in early 1993 with a program of emergency assistance. It remained in the country until 1996, was caring for refugees and displaced persons. AMURT Switzerland distributed 30,000 food packages to 30,000 refugees with the cooperation of the UNHCR and the Croatian Red Cross.
AMURT was providing housing with gardens for self-sufficiency to small groups of refugees and was supply of basic hygienic articles and clothes to refugee camps in Zagreb. AMURT also delivered food to the elderly who were not able to flee the combat zones.
UNHCR officers were supporting AMURT to distribute food to people in need. UN troops were helping AMURT unloading of relief supplies from Switzerland. Shipments could be transported in the crisis areas only under the protection of the troops.
